Uganda PVoC reinstated from 3rd December 2012

Exporting to Uganda? Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) to Standards Programme to be reinstated from 3rd December 2012.

As you may be aware in November 2010 the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) suspended the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) to Standards Programme.

Intertek has received official notification from UNBS that this programme will now recommence from 1st November 2012 and will be fully enforced from 3rd December 2012.

The PVoC is in place to assure Ugandan consumers of the quality and safety of imported goods. The PVoC programme covers the verification of all ‘Regulated Products’ to be in compliance with the Uganda/ other approved standards on the basis of which a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is issued.

Intertek has been awarded a contract by the UNBS to issue this certificate.

The CoC is needed to ensure customs clearance of shipments in Uganda. Obtaining the CoC also confirms that the products comply with the relevant Ugandan technical regulations and/or national, regional or international standards. Failure to present this certificate can result in severe delays in Customs clearance, penalities or even shipments being returned to the country of export.

Intertek signs new 5 year contract to support SONCAP

Intertek has signed a new contract to support The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) Conformity Assessment Programme, which aims to improve the quality and safety of goods being exported to Nigeria and protect its citizens from substandard and dangerous goods.

Intertek, the leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide and leading provider of Conformity Assessment Programmes services for Nigeria and the rest of world, signed the five year contract to continue to provide certification services in line with the Nigerian Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP).

The programme, which has been in place since 2005, was implemented to improve the quality and safety of goods being exported to Nigeria and to protect its citizens from substandard and dangerous goods. It requires that every consignment of regulated products being exported to Nigeria meets both international and local standards and that exporters obtain a Certificate of Conformity which enables Customs clearance. Samples are also taken at the country of origin and the container duly sealed to prevent tampering and substitution of products to further strengthen the programme.

Intertek, the longest serving and most experienced provider of Conformity Assessment Programmes services worldwide, has been approved by SON to issue the mandatory Certificates of Conformity.
